Place items at the curb on Aug. 27 and 28 for others to discover

Out with the old and in with the new! The City of Vaughan’s Curbside Giveaway Days are back again on Saturday, Aug. 27 and Sunday, Aug. 28. This is your chance to get rid of household items you no longer want or need and to take home free treasures from other participating properties in your area.

The upcoming schedule for 2022 Curbside Giveaway Days is as follows:

  • Saturday, Aug. 27 and Sunday, Aug. 28
  • Saturday, Sept. 24 and Sunday, Sept. 25
  • Saturday, Oct. 22 and Sunday, Oct. 23

To participate in Curbside Giveaway Days, mark your items “free” and place them at the curb on each Curbside Giveaway Day, beginning at 7 a.m. Any items that are not claimed must be brought in by 5 p.m. on Sunday. Items left at the curb after that time could result in a by-law violation.

Here are some more steps you can take to participate successfully:

  • Download and print a “FREE” curbside giveaway poster (PDF) to place on your items.
  • Only take items that are marked “free.”
  • Share pictures of your items using #VaughanCurbGiveaway on social media.
  • Keep items you do not want to give away close to your home or inside to avoid confusion.
  • Keep sidewalks and fire hydrants clear.
  • Respect private property and do not walk on people’s lawns or gardens.
  • Obey traffic laws at all times – please do not block traffic or driveways.

If you live in a condo, connect with your property management to see if you can label items in the bulky item waste room “free” for other residents to take before collection.

Not sure what items you can place at the curb? Here are some examples:

  • books, CDs and DVDs
  • furniture and small appliances
  • sports equipment and toys
  • yard and gardening equipment (e.g. lawnmowers, shovels and rakes)
  • kitchen gadgets, dishes, cutlery, pots and pans
  • artwork and mirrors
  • electronics
  • clothing

What should not be placed at the curb?

Baby walkers, car seats and other items listed on the Consumer Product Safety Bureau website are not safe to give away. Visit the City’s website for a complete list of what is recommended to be placed at the curb.

For locations where you can donate, recycle or dispose of any items that were not picked up, visit the City’s Set Out and Large Items webpage. To dispose of items the City does not collect, such as household hazardous waste, visit the York Region Waste Depots webpage.
