Register for Vaughan s 20 Minute Makeover
The City’s annual community cleanup is on Thursday, April 25 at 2 p.m.
Gather
your friends – it’s time to spring clean your neighbourhood and help create a cleaner,
greener city! On Thursday, April 25 at 2 p.m., the City of Vaughan’s annual
20-Minute Makeover challenge begins.
Every
year in April, in honour of Earth Day, schools, businesses, residents and local
groups in Vaughan are encouraged to come together, get outside and participate
in the 20-minute community litter cleanup event. In 2018, more than 17,600
people participated across the city, cleaning up local school yards, parks,
trails, green spaces, backyards, boulevards and even around their local Canada
Post mailbox.
Interested
in participating? Here’s how: think of a location you would like to help clean,
submit your completed registration
form (PDF) to environment@vaughan.ca and be
ready to clean your selected location for 20 minutes on Thursday, April 25. Sign
up by Friday, April 12 to receive free supplies, including garbage bags and
plastic gloves, that can be picked up from your local community centre.
This
year’s cleanup initiative is sponsored by Glad Canada and in partnership with Pitch-In Canada – a
national non-profit group dedicated to preserving and creating more sustainable
environments. The event is also in partnership with Clean Canada Together
– a group of municipalities across Canada that each challenge their communities
to keep local neighbourhoods clean.
The
City of Vaughan’s annual 20-Minute Makeover further strengthens the commitment
to preserving the city by creating lasting and sustainable behaviours. This
event also supports goals outlined in Green Directions Vaughan, the City’s
community sustainability and environmental plan, and promotes environmental
stewardship, one of Council’s priorities for the 2018-2022 term.
