Reminder: 2021 Order of Vaughan nominations are open
City’s annual award recognizes extraordinary acts of public service
The City of Vaughan is accepting nominations for the 2021 Order of Vaughan. This award is the highest honour the City may bestow on an individual who exemplifies extraordinary citizenship.
Do you know someone who is dedicated to bettering the city? Or an individual who advocates for the community and brings positive change? Nominate them for consideration.
The Order of Vaughan recognizes leaders within the following categories: arts and entertainment, media and communications, athletics, health and wellness, business, philanthropy, public service, education, science and technology, not-for-profit, equity and diversity, accessibility, and environment and spirituality.
To be eligible, a nominee must be a living person at the time of nomination and have dedicated their time, talent and resources for the betterment of Vaughan. An individual does not need to reside in Vaughan to be eligible. Nominations will not be accepted for staff currently employed by the City of Vaughan or for current elected public office holders at the federal, provincial or municipal level. Self-nominations will also not be accepted. View additional eligibility criteria and the online application package at vaughan.ca/OrderOfVaughan.
The nomination period will run until Friday, Sept. 10, 2021. Once closed, the Order of Vaughan Selection Committee will review nominations and recommend successful candidates to Council for approval. The 2021 Order will be presented by Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua and Members of Council during an official investiture ceremony later this year. Event details will be posted to vaughan.ca/OrderOfVaughan once confirmed.
The Order of Vaughan was first launched by Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua in 2016 to mark Vaughan’s 25th anniversary. The award was created to pay tribute to individuals who have made a meaningful impact on Vaughan’s civic life and dedicate their time and talent to the city’s ongoing success. In its first year, 25 recipients were invested into the Order. In subsequent years – and for 2021 – up to 10 nominees may be eligible to receive the award. Since its inception, 46 remarkable individuals have been invested.
