Obtaining a marriage licence

Before you say your vows, a lot of work and preparation is involved in planning the perfect wedding day – including getting a marriage licence. The Office of the City Clerk issues marriage licences at Vaughan City Hall by appointment only between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. One or both applicants must come in person to receive the marriage licence.

You must present the following at your appointment:

  • Marriage Licence Application form (PDF), completed and signed by both applicants
  • Two pieces of original government-issued identification for both applicants, such as a birth certificate, passport, driver’s licence or Ontario photo identification card. Photocopies of documentation are not accepted
  • Licence fee of $184.30, made payable to the City of Vaughan via cheque, debit, Visa or MasterCard
  • Proof of minimum age requirements. Applicants under 18 years of age require written consent from their legal guardian(s)

The City also offers officiants for on and off-site civil ceremonies. For more information on marriage licences, civil ceremonies, appointment bookings and requirements, visit the City’s Marriage Services webpage.
