Email registrationservices@vaughan.ca to book your outdoor civil marriage ceremony

Wedding bells will be ringing! In addition to offering curbside marriage licences, the City of Vaughan is now arranging outdoor civil ceremonies to couples looking to tie the knot. While COVID-19 safety measures remain in place, licences will be issued by appointment only and available for curbside pickup at Vaughan City Hall. Marriage ceremonies will be performed outdoors at Vaughan City Hall, by appointment only and with limited capacity restrictions.

MARRIAGE LICENCES

The Office of the City Clerk continues to accept appointments for marriage licences. To arrange a curbside booking, please email registrationservices@vaughan.ca. Limited spots are available. Appointments will be made on a first-come, first-served basis every Wednesday between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Priority is given to applicants with ceremonies scheduled within 60 days of the booking date.

Interested couples will be contacted by staff with additional details, including documentation and scheduling information, if accepted. Please check the Curbside Licence Appointment Update on the City’s website for information on booking periods – at this time, appointment requests for the month of July are closed. Requests for appointments in the month of August will be accepted beginning Monday, July 19 at 8:00 a.m.

Residents must present the following at their appointment for the marriage licence to be issued:

  • Marriage Licence Application form (PDF), completed and signed by both applicants
  • Original government-issued identification for both applicants, including a birth certificate or passport, and a valid photo ID such as a driver’s licence or Ontario photo card. Photocopies of documentation are not accepted
  • Licence fee of $170, which can be made payable to the City of Vaughan via cheque, debit, Visa or Mastercard
  • Proof of minimum age requirements. Applicants under 18 years of age require written consent from their legal guardian(s)

MARRIAGE CEREMONIES

Couples wishing to be wed at Vaughan City Hall may apply for marriage services through the Office of the City Clerk. Outdoor ceremonies are being conducted on Thursdays and Fridays between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. only. In response to COVID-19, indoor and off-site ceremonies are not being facilitated at this time. An outdoor ceremony space has been made available at Vaughan City Hall, with access to public parking. The ceremony space will be available for a maximum of 30 minutes. The restrictions also limit the number of attending guests to 10 people, in accordance with current provincial COVID-19 guidelines. This limit includes the officiant, two individuals being married and two witnesses.

To book a ceremony, email registrationservices@vaughan.ca or call 905-832-8504. Bookings may occur up to three months in advance or at a minimum of two weeks’ notice before the preferred date. Once scheduled, a visit to Vaughan City Hall is required to complete payment and to submit a valid Ontario Marriage Licence. At this time, an officiant will be assigned to the ceremony and will reach out to arrange details, including preferred options for vows, through a virtual pre-ceremony consultation.

The City’s Outdoor Civil Ceremony Information Package (PDF) can be used to help plan the ceremony. It includes important COVID-19 regulations that will have an impact on the service and guidelines from the City’s ceremony policy that must be followed. The City’s Outdoor Civil Marriage Ceremony Questionnaire (PDF) must also be completed and submitted by email to the assigned officiant.
