Architectural models of two subway stations to be built in Vaughan as part of the Toronto-York Spadina Subway Extension (TYSSE) are on display at Vaughan City Hall. Scale models of Highway 407 Station and the Station at Vaughan Metropolitan Centre, along with information posters, are available for viewing until the end of October.

“A sense of excitement is growing in Vaughan now that construction has started on the subway extension and we can see what the future will look like,” said Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua. “A big part of that future is the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre, our planned downtown area which will secure Vaughan’s transformation into a world-class city. The Vaughan Metropolitan Centre will change the cityscape and create a central focus for area businesses and city residents.”

The TYSSE project will extend the existing Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) subway system from the City of Toronto to the City of Vaughan. Six subway stations will be built along the planned route: the Station at Vaughan Metropolitan Centre; Highway 407 Station; Steeles West Station; York University Station; Finch West Station and Sheppard West Station. The 8.6 km subway extension has a planned service date at end of 2015.

Highway 407 Station will be located west of Jane Street and south of Highway 407, on the west bank of Black Creek. It will be a multi-modal transportation hub with parking for about 600 commuter vehicles and York Region Transit (YRT) and GO Transit service.

The Station at Vaughan Metropolitan Centre will be located north of Highway 7 to the west of Millway Avenue. It will incorporate a number of environmental features, including a high solar reflectance roof, skylights to reduce electrical lighting and energy efficient water fixtures.
