Statement: Mayor Bevilacqua announces Rogers Hometown Hockey Tour coming to Vaughan
Celebrating the community’s passion for the sport in the heart of the city
Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua issued this statement following the release of the 2019-2020 Rogers Hometown Hockey Tour schedule:
“It is with great pride that we announce the City of Vaughan has been selected as an official host of the 2019-2020 Rogers Hometown Hockey Tour. This is a unique opportunity to recognize the remarkable athletic talent produced in Vaughan and bring the community together to celebrate our shared passion for hockey.
“From Saturday, January 11 to Sunday, January 12, 2020, the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre (VMC) will become hockey-central, featuring free live entertainment, meet-and-greets with NHL alumni, local celebrities and hockey-themed activities for all ages to enjoy. We also look forward to welcoming hosts Ron MacLean and Tara Slone, who will cap off the weekend with a live outdoor viewing party of a Toronto Maple Leafs game broadcast on Sportsnet.
“As the heart of the city, the VMC has quickly become a dynamic centre of inspiration, imagination and innovation. There is no question that it is the ideal place to host the ultimate hockey experience. With the Vaughan subway just steps away, fans from Vaughan and across the GTA can join in the weekend festivities.
“We have a proud hockey tradition in Vaughan. We are excited to share our most cherished hockey stories with fans across the country and be part of this beloved initiative.”
