Provide feedback on Vaughan’s Registered Ratepayer/Community Association Policy

The City of Vaughan values the voices of its citizens. As part of this commitment, it is undertaking an evaluation of its strategy for registered ratepayer groups and community associations. This review will engage with residents and draw from their neighbourhood experience to help the City craft a potentially updated policy.

A ratepayer or community association is an organization formed by a group of residents in a defined area who come together to address issues affecting their neighbourhood, such as traffic congestion, new proposed developments and safety concerns.

City-building is a collective effort and a priority in the 2018-2022 Term of Council Service Excellence Strategic Plan. To ensure the needs of the community are understood, residents are encouraged to participate in the stakeholder engagement process to share information and feedback through the following channels:

  • Online survey: This three- to six-minute survey seeks to understand the public’s awareness of the policy and obtain perspectives on its various elements — including the registration process and requirements, and some of the benefits that come with being a registered association, among other things. The online survey closes Wednesday, Sept. 25.
  • Stakeholder roundtable: Current registered ratepayer group or community association executive members will be invited to attend a 90-minute stakeholder roundtable to discuss the background review, including recommendations and opportunities.
  • Public forum: A two-hour public forum will be hosted on Thursday, Oct. 10 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Vaughan City Hall in the Multi-Purpose Room to present some of the key themes from the online survey and offer an opportunity for participants to discuss questions designed to further explore these themes. This interactive session will include a brief presentation with small group activities and a plenary discussion.

The input received through resident feedback will be summarized in a staff report and presented to Council at a Committee of the Whole Meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2019 to help inform Council's decision on next steps.
