Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua issued the following statement:
“It is with
an attitude of gratitude that I extend my sincere congratulations to York
Regional Police Deputy Chief Thomas Carrique on being appointed the new
Commissioner of the OPP. On behalf of the City of Vaughan, I would like to
thank him for dedicating 29 years of his career to ensuring the safety and
security of our citizens - and doing so with an exceptional level of honour and
integrity.
“Through my
work as a member of the York Region Police Services Board, I have come to know
Deputy Chief Carrique as a highly-skilled professional with a personal
commitment to enhancing the quality of life in our communities. His innate
talent and passion for public service has led him up the ranks in the police service
where he has been continually recognized for his experienced, progressive and
thoughtful approach to leadership.
“While his
presence will certainly be missed at YRP, knowing he will continue to represent
our needs at the provincial level is indeed gratifying. We are truly proud of his dedicated work and
the important role he has played in making York Region the safest municipality
in Canada.
"Once
again, I am pleased to congratulate Deputy Chief Thomas Carrique on his new
role as OPP Commissioner and wish him the very best as he embarks on this
exciting and challenging new chapter.”
