Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua has issued the following statement.

“The City of Vaughan has lost a leader in our community and an unwavering advocate for seniors with the passing of Isabella Ferrara, president of the Seniors Association of Vaughan Initiative (SAVI). I offer my sincere condolences to her family and friends at this difficult time.

Since the inception of SAVI in 2003, she has been a powerful voice for the seniors’ community. Through her dedicated efforts at co-ordinating events, outings and excursions, she was instrumental in advocating unity and friendship among seniors and the community, with a focus on continuing to build a culture of diversity and inclusion.

Isabella’s life was one of selfless public service. She believed in the well-being, dignity and respect of seniors, and placed great value on their contributions to community life. Under her leadership, SAVI provided support to many local initiatives, and provided services and programs that allowed our seniors to continue being active and productive members of our city.

In recognition of her lifetime of giving back to her community, Isabella was recognized in 2016 as one of the first 25 recipients of the Order of Vaughan, the highest honour the City can present to a citizen.

On behalf of my colleagues on Council and the citizens of Vaughan, I would like to again express my deepest sympathies to her family and friends.”
