Tis the season to get active at your local community centre
The City of Vaughan is offering family-friendly, drop-in leisure activities at community centres across Vaughan during the holiday break from December 22, 2012 to January 6, 2013.
Free recreational ice-skating, sponsored by Tim Hortons, is available at Al Palladini, Garnet A. Williams and Maple arenas. Free, supervised skate time is also offered at the City’s outdoor rinks. Other recreational programs, available for a nominal fee, include swimming, aquafitness, badminton, ball hockey, basketball, bocce, bowling, soccer, table tennis, volleyball and shinny hockey.
Community centre youth rooms are open for youth aged 10 to 17 for foosball, air hockey, pool, ping pong, Xbox and Wii, in addition to recreational youth sports in facility gymnasiums. Vaughan fitness centres, which feature various amenities including cardio and strength training equipment, squash courts, running tracks, and fitness classes such as pilates, zumba, yoga and spinning, are open to residents 14 years and older.
In addition to drop-in activities, a special pre-registered day camp Holiday Happenings is offered at Garnet A. Williams Community Centre for children aged four to 12. Camp activities geared to keep children motivated during the school break include arts and crafts, sports, games, daily swimming and skating. Maple Community Centre is offering a special needs camp Kool Holidayz, with swimming, cooking, arts and crafts, cooperative games and a visit to the McMichael Canadian Art Collection for children aged 12 and older.
