Top five tips for your next waste collection day
Have you ever wondered where to report missed waste collection? Or how to buy a new blue box or green bin? What about where to put your waste bins when there are snowbanks at the curb?
We have the answers to these questions and more – read our top five tips to be prepared for your next waste collection day:
Have questions? Contact Service Vaughan
If you have questions about your waste materials or the City of Vaughan’s collection services, don’t chase after the waste truck – call Service Vaughan at 905-832-2281 or email service@vaughan.ca and a Citizen Service Representative will be happy to assist you. If any of your waste materials were missed, contact Service Vaughan or report it online.
2. Check your Waste Collection Schedule for upcoming collection services
The 2024 Waste Collection Schedule is your number one guide on upcoming collection days and programs, such as Double-Up Days and leaf and yard waste, which bins and bags are accepted curbside, and much more. Remember to place all items curbside by 7 a.m. on your scheduled collection day. Staff will not return for materials set out late. Pickup times may be impacted by winter weather.
3. Clear a space in the snow for your waste
If there’s snow on or before your collection day, clear a space on your driveway for your bins and bags. Ensure your materials are set back from the curb approximately one metre on the right-hand side of the driveway (when facing the home) where possible. Don’t let your waste get buried in snow, and keep it off of snowbanks and the road – this allows crews to collect waste safely and for the City’s plows to clear snow efficiently in residential areas.
4. Go online to learn what goes where
Are you unsure where to dispose of something? Check using the City’s online ‘What Goes Where?’ sorting tool. You can also download the Recycle Coach app through the Apple App Store or Google Play to confirm where waste items belong. The app provides waste-less tips and a personalized collection schedule with optional alerts on what to put to the curb each week.
5. Buy a new blue box or green bin online
If you need a new blue box or green bin, you can purchase them online through Service Vaughan and have them delivered right to your home! Alternatively, you can buy bins at the following community centres, while supplies last:
