Update: Sports Village Proposal
Vaughan
Council has voted unanimously to not proceed with the Sports Village proposal.
The
proposal was first received by Vaughan Council at Committee of the Whole on
June 16, 2015. City staff then conducted a review and brought on external
experts to do an evaluation and produce a business case analysis assessing the
benefits and risks, which was presented to Council at Committee of the Whole on
June 6, 2018.
On June
19, 2018, Council directed staff to consult with citizens and impacted
stakeholders to collect feedback on the Sports Village proposal. The public's
views and opinions on this matter are important, and the City provided
different avenues for them to be heard.
During
the public engagement process, community meetings were held on Jan. 20 and Feb.
17. Comments were also collected through Access Vaughan at 905-832-2281 and
through email at sportsvillage@vaughan.ca. A
short online survey was also open until Feb. 22.
QUOTE
“As
Mayor of the City of Vaughan and on behalf of Council, this decision sends a
very strong message to the citizens of Vaughan. We listened. We appreciate your
input. We give your opinion the respect it justly deserves. Let me be clear, no
project gets approved in our city without it being in the public interest.”
