Communications Operators from Vaughan Fire and Rescue Service (VFRS) recently received awards for Outstanding Performance of a Platoon at the York Regional Tri-Services 15th Annual Appreciation Awards ceremony. The awards were presented by Deputy Fire Chief Gary Fraser of VFRS to Danielle Armstrong and Krista Wallace.

During the night of September 23, 2012 the two relatively new Communications Operators experienced three structure fires within a 30-minute time frame. Remaining calm, and relying on their training, both operators deployed the resources necessary to manage the incidents while ensuring operational readiness for other potential calls for service.

“The VFRS Communications Operators displayed a high-level of professionalism while maintaining the necessary flow of information and deploying appropriate fire apparatus to provide the residents with the help they needed when they needed it most,” said Acting Fire Chief Larry Bentley.

The Tri-Services Awards, sponsored by the Regional Municipality of York also recognized Call Taker of the Year, Dispatcher of the Year and Outstanding Achievement in the Communications Centre.
