Vaughan Accepts Gift of Life Challenge to Raise Organ Donor Rates

The City of Vaughan has accepted a challenge issued by the York Region Gift of Life Association to increase organ donor registration rates across the City.

The York Region Municipal Organ Drive Challenge – the largest organ and tissue donor registration drive in Ontario – has been extended to all nine York Region municipalities in an effort to increase donor registration rates locally and across the Region as whole.

The friendly challenge, endorsed by Vaughan Council, encourages municipalities to increase donor rates in their communities through a public awareness campaign and online registration between November 1, 2012 and January 31, 2013.

The York Region Gift of Life Association is an organ and tissue donation advocacy group comprised of more than 20 members from across the Region. The organ donor drive is also being supported by Trillium Gift of Life, the provincial agency for organ and tissue transplant.

There are more than 1,500 people in Ontario waiting for life-saving organ donations.

Vaughan residents are encouraged to participate in the York Region Municipal Organ Drive Challenge by registering online as a donor at www.beadonor.ca/cityofvaughan.
