Vaughan appoints new City Clerk

Barbara McEwan to assume the role in February 2017
 
The City of Vaughan is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Barbara McEwan as City Clerk, effective Feb. 24, 2017.
 
Ms. McEwan is an accomplished public servant with more than 30 years of combined experience in the municipal and provincial government. She currently holds the position of Deputy City Clerk for the City of Vaughan, where her responsibilities include leading the Council-Committee Secretariat, providing professional procedural and governance advice to the Mayor and Members of Council and to City staff, facilitating interaction between members of the public and Council, and overseeing Council's appointments process.
 
Prior to joining Vaughan, Ms. McEwan also served as Director of Electoral Events for Elections Ontario, where she managed field operations for provincial elections, and held leadership roles in a number of GTA municipalities, including Deputy Clerk of the City of Mississauga and the former City of Scarborough, and Clerk of the Town of Halton Hills. She is an active member of the Association of Municipal Managers, Clerks and Treasurers of Ontario (AMCTO), currently serving as a member of their AMCTO Municipal Elections Act Advisory Group.
 
Ms. McEwan is replacing Mr. Jeffrey Abrams, who will be retiring on Feb. 24 after nine years of service with the City of Vaughan.

  • Ms. McEwan has an honours bachelor of environmental studies (urban and regional planning) degree from the University of Waterloo and a masters of public administration degree from Carleton University. She also has a masters certificate in municipal leadership from Schulich School of Business, York University. She is a Registered Professional Planner (RPP) and holds a Certified Municipal Officer (CMO) designation with AMCTO.
