Vaughan Breaks Record Raising More Than $67,000 For United Way Of York Region
To complete the City of Vaughan’s 2010 United Way campaign, Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua and Members of Council recently presented a cheque to Daniele Zanotti, Chief Executive Officer of the United Way of York Region. City staff raised a record $67,529 through personal donations and a number of special events which ran from October to December, 2010.
"The reason behind last year's record-breaking tally is quite simple – the generosity and initiative of our fantastic staff," said Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua. "This is another example of how our community pulls together, even in difficult economic times, to enable the United Way of York Region to help those in need."
Payroll donations accounted for $47,475. Other employee-driven initiatives raised $20,054. Some of the activities included the City's first-ever fire truck pull and barbecue, the tenth annual pool tournament, a silent auction, weekly draws and an art and poinsettias sale.
"The campaign featured resourceful and creative events which were fun and helped to enhance and strengthen relationships with colleagues," said City Manager Clayton Harris. "I would like to thank Barb Cribbett, Commissioner of Finance & City Treasurer and Chair of the 2010 United Way Campaign, and the 48 volunteer organizers who helped make this drive an unparalleled success."
