Vaughan's Annual Winterfest Headlined By Shrek Stompin' The Swamp

​Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua and Members of Council joined residents, corporate sponsors and special guests on Sunday, February 6 to kick off Vaughan’s 22nd annual Winterfest, presented by TD at the Vellore Village Community Centre.

“Winterfest is a family-themed celebration that provides free entertainment and activities for everyone to enjoy,” said Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua.  “It is an opportunity for residents to come together to celebrate this wonderful sense of community that makes Vaughan such a great City.”

The event was highlighted by DreamWorks Shrek Stompin’ the Swamp and a tribute to Justin Bieber. Other stage entertainment included Camp Dance to Da Beat and Kobbler Jay, “The Eccentric Juggler.”

Winterfest also featured free midway rides sponsored by Tim Hortons and an appearance by Toronto Maple Leafs forward Clarke MacArthur who signed autographs for fans of all ages.
Other free activities included a meet and greet with Fifi and FuzzBuzz from Fifi & The Flowertots, Star Wars characters, a pizza-making workshop, face painting, arts and crafts, horse-drawn wagon rides, Vaughan Public Libraries family storytime, Vaughan Fire and Rescue  Service displays, pleasure skating and much more.
 
“An event of this calibre involves the collaboration and efforts of many dedicated staff, community sponsors and volunteers to make it a success,” said City Manager Clayton Harris. “I would like to recognize the Events Team in Recreation and Culture for organizing the event and City staff from various departments for their outstanding contributions.”
 
Joining the Mayor and Members of Council at the Official Welcome were the Honourable Peter Kent, Minister of the Environment and Superintendent Tony Cusimano of York Regional Police.
