Vaughan Celebrates Jewish Heritage Month with Photography Exhibit

April 23, 2014

In celebration of Jewish Heritage Month in Ontario, a photography exhibit titled Jews: A Canadian Story in Pictures from the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA) will be featured at Vaughan City Hall from April 28 to May 16. The exhibit will be open to the public from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Friday.

The 17-panel display features archival photos of the first Jewish settlement, subsequent community establishments and the history of Jews in Canada dating from the early 1800s to the 1960s. The images are being provided by the Jewish Public Library Archives, Canadian Jewish Congress’ Charities Committee National Archives and the Jewish Historical Society of Southern Alberta. The exhibit chronicles contributions by the Jewish community in influencing the evolution of Canada as a country. Themes of the exhibit include “Arrival,” “Creating Communities” and “Beyond Their Own Backyards.”

An official launch of the exhibit will take place at Vaughan City Hall in the main atrium on May 7 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The CIJA is the advocacy agent of UJA Federation of Greater Toronto and all other Canadian Jewish Federations.
