Vaughan Delivers Service Excellence with the 2010 Report to Citizens
The City of Vaughan has published its 2010 Report to Citizens, Planning Tomorrow Together, which is being delivered to all Vaughan households and businesses. The report highlights a number of City initiatives from the past year and includes an overview of municipal finances.
“At the City of Vaughan we are dedicated to serving our community and to delivering the best value to residents for their tax dollar,” said Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua. “This publication showcases our ongoing commitment to providing service excellence and sound financial planning while maintaining a quality of life that is second to none. I encourage all citizens to read the report to celebrate our City’s successes - your successes.”
The 20-page report highlights the initiatives that the City has moved forward with including the approval of the new Official Plan and several secondary Master Plans which focus on creating a sustainable environment while balancing the needs of a growing population. Other successes include:
• Receiving a top rating by the Conference Board of Canada as one of the top two performing economies in Canada.
• Maintaining one of the lowest municipal tax rates in the GTA.
• Diverging almost 70 per cent of waste from landfill through the Greening Vaughan waste management program.
• Completing the new City Hall, a state-of-the-art building that delivers staff efficiencies, makes it easier for residents and businesses to access services and provides public meeting spaces.
• Rebranding the City with a new City logo to mark the City’s emergence as a major urban centre.
• Opening Vaughan’s first animal shelter to support Animal Control Services.
• Receiving numerous staff awards from external organizations in the areas of financial management, environmental stewardship, public engagement, community services, and technological innovation.
