The City’s newest green space – Twelve Oaks Park – was officially opened yesterday as Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua, Members of Council and residents took part in a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the occasion.

“This new park provides great recreational facilities and contributes to the vitality and growth in our community,” said Mayor Bevilacqua. “The creation of this park adds to our quality of life and local community spirit. We are ensuring our City has state-of-the-art recreational infrastructure as we encourage our residents to lead a healthy lifestyle and become physically active.”

Located at 525 Via Romano Boulevard, Twelve Oaks Park is 7.96 acres in size and features a senior soccer field, junior and senior accessible playground, a double tennis court with acrylic surfacing, junior skateboard park and a circular path and amphitheatre. Other highlights include wood carpet surfacing in the playgrounds, use of native and drought resistant plants, and low flow swales to reduce rainwater runoff to the storm system.

"Twelve Oaks Park is a wonderful addition to this growing community, and a place I know the residents of our City will come to love and appreciate," said Ward 4 Councillor Sandra Yeung Racco. "As an accessible recreational space, this park features a number of both passive and active opportunities for people of all ages, and it will become a focal point for the surrounding neighbourhoods. I would like to remind the community to think of safety first, and I encourage everyone to wear a helmet and other safety equipment while enjoying the skate park."
