Peter Wixson Receives Ward 2 Civic Hero Award for Volunteer Work
Vaughan Council has presented Peter Wixson with the City’s Ward 2 Civic Hero Award for his volunteer efforts in the community as Executive Director of the Vaughan Food Bank.
“The Vaughan Food Bank has been instrumental in helping those in need in our community for many years. It is operated entirely by volunteers and also assists a number of other agencies including other food banks in York Region,” said Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua. “Volunteering is the ultimate form of public service and I offer my sincere gratitude and congratulations to Mr. Wixson for his leadership and commitment to the community through his work with the food bank.”
The award recognizes residents whose actions are outstanding examples of civic commitment. Ward 2 Councillor Tony Carella nominated Mr. Wixson, a long-time resident of Vaughan, for the award. Mr. Wixson has been involved with the food bank for over two decades and has been the Executive Director for 16 years. He volunteers over 3,000 hours a year to the food bank which provides meals and food to those in need and also provides support to 14 other agencies in York Region.
“Mr. Wixson is an outstanding example of what working together and giving to your community is all about,” said Ward 2 Councillor Tony Carella. “His track record and participation in the community through his work with the Vaughan Food Bank is inspiring and his dedication to those less fortunate in our community is worthy of recognition.”
The Civic Hero Award is presented annually to one resident from each of the five local wards of Vaughan. The Awards recognize outstanding achievement and individual contributions to the community.
