Vaughan to host its first-ever virtual Canada Day event
Annual
celebration of nation’s birthday will take place online
Every
year, Vaughan citizens come together on July 1 to enjoy the City’s popular
Canada Day event. The festivities will continue in 2020 – when the City hosts
its first-ever virtual celebration. This will allow Vaughan residents to mark
this popular and much-anticipated event safely from the comfort of their homes.
Planning
for the online Canada Day event is underway. More information will follow about
sponsorship opportunities and entertainment. For information, please contact vaughancelebrates@vaughan.ca.
Today’s
announcement marks the latest in a series of precautionary measures taken by
the City to protect the health of residents throughout the global COVID-19
pandemic.
All
City facilities, including Vaughan City Hall, community centres, library
branches and facilities within parks, remain closed to the public until further
notice. The City also recently announced the cancellation of all spring
recreation programs and permits, as well as the postponement of upcoming City-led
events, to help break the chain of transmission of this virus.
QUOTE
“As we continue to respond to the evolving COVID-19
global pandemic, there is nothing more important than the safety of our
citizens. For the time being, this means making changes to our day-to-day lives
by staying home as much as possible. The City of Vaughan is committed to
protecting the health and well-being of citizens, which is why we continue to
take necessary actions to support physical distancing – including, for the
first-time ever, celebrating Canada Day virtually. Our signature event always
draws thousands of people to share our love and patriotism for this great
nation we are proud to call home. As we deal with the new realities caused by
this pandemic, we must continue to celebrate what defines us as a community and
a country. Together, we will emerge stronger.”

Maurizio Bevilacqua
