Join us for a kickoff event on Nov. 10 at City Hall

Festive lights and decorations are a hallmark of the holiday season, and, for many cultures and faiths, they are a meaningful symbol to get the community in the festive spirit at this time of year.

Get ready to be dazzled! The City of Vaughan will host its inaugural Festival of Lights celebration at Vaughan City Hall (2141 Major Mackenzie Dr.) on Friday, Nov. 10 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Everyone is invited to join in the fun, which will include the unveiling – and first illumination – of a new Vaughan sign at City Hall. The kickoff event will also feature official remarks from Mayor Steven Del Duca, an interactive DJ and free hot chocolate.

Let’s keep the celebrations going!

Starting on Sunday, Nov. 12, residents and businesses in Vaughan are invited to nominate themselves, a neighbour or a business whose lights shine bright! The City is introducing a new Festive Lights program this winter to recognize those who go above and beyond to decorate their homes and properties with exceptional pride in their light displays. The program provides an opportunity for residents to celebrate each other’s cultures and Vaughan’s diversity.

Nominations can be emailed to festivecelebrations@vaughan.ca by Thursday, Feb. 1, 2024; please include the property owner’s name, address and photos of their festive lights. Entries will be selected based on the following criteria:

  • Design incorporates the use of energy-efficient lights.
  • Overall esthetic of the property is visually appealing.
  • Property uses lights and decorations.
  • Property shows creativity in design.
  • Property is well maintained.

Those selected will be contacted to pick up a Festive Lights sign at their local community centre to display on their front lawn or window.
