Vaughan Receives Assistance with Storm Cleanup

The City of Vaughan has secured assistance from two municipalities to assist with cleanup operations in the wake of this weekend’s ice storm.

The City of Peterborough and Simcoe County sent crews on Dec. 23 in the morning to help clear fallen trees and remove blockages from roads and driveways to ensure streets are safe for residents and emergency vehicles.

“The generous support we have received from the City of Peterborough and Simcoe County is a true example of the goodwill that arises when others are in need of assistance,” said Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua. “On behalf of the City of Vaughan, I would like to extend my gratitude to them for stepping forward and sharing their resources with us. I would also like to express my sincere thanks to the City employees who have been working around the clock to respond to this storm. Their dedication to ensuring residents’ safety is greatly appreciated.”

The crews are also helping with street inspections to assess any hazards caused by fallen trees, branches and other debris. The City expects an assessment of all Vaughan streets will be complete today. Peterborough and Simcoe County may send crews again tomorrow.

The public is encouraged to remain indoors, avoid walking under or near trees, and not cut or trim tree branches. Please report hazardous or fallen trees to the City at 905-832-2281 and press 0 for dispatch.
