Vaughan Receives Grant to Support Emergency Preparedness and Response Capabilities

May 13, 2013

The City of Vaughan recently received a grant from Public Safety Canada’s Joint Emergency Preparedness Program (JEPP) to cover up to 45 per cent of the cost of two Digital Vehicular Repeater Systems (DVRS) for Vaughan Fire and Rescue Service.

The DVRS are used to enhance and strengthen the signal for portable radios and ensure communications between fire crews during emergencies in signal troubled areas. The two DVRS repeaters are part of an eight-unit project.

JEPP is a national initiative created by the federal government in 1980 and is designed to enhance national emergency response capabilities. The goal of the program is to establish a uniform level of emergency management across the country. It is administered by Public Safety Canada in cooperation with the federal, provincial and territorial governments.
