Vaughan sets new building construction record

Value of permits in 2017 on the verge of reaching $2 billion mark

Vaughan is the place to be. In the last year alone, the City issued $1.969 billion in building construction value, equalling more than $5 million of construction activity invested in the city every day and surpassing last year’s $1.149 billion in building construction value.

Vaughan is one of the best places to live, with a quality of life that is second to none. This is proven in the most recent Citizen Survey that reveals 97 per cent of residents believe that life is good here. As the largest employment centre in York Region, the City continues to excel in economic growth. New data reveals that Vaughan is now home to 11,948 businesses that employ 218,022 people. A high standard of living combined with access to employment reflects the investment demand that fuels record-breaking construction value in Vaughan.

Building on this momentum, Vaughan’s vision for the future is becoming a reality. Major city-building projects are being realized – a downtown core is rising from the ground, a state-of-the-art hospital is under construction and the subway is now open. These are just some of the reasons why Vaughan is a place where people want to live, work, play and invest.

With a well-educated workforce, diverse population, access to foreign markets and favourable location, it is clear the Vaughan Advantage continues to be attractive to businesses and our citizens agree that life is good here. I am grateful to staff who remain committed to city-building and help to realize our vision of becoming a world-class city.
