Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua and City staff yesterday introduced and demonstrated City Hall’s new state-of-the-art, digital interactive directory – a 40-inch touch screen, wireless networked media player. The directory is located in the main atrium and can be accessed by those visiting City Hall.

“This new technology is a testament to our commitment to providing residents and visitors with the best service possible. This interactive directory will serve to welcome people to City Hall by providing them with easy-to-use directions to enable them to quickly locate their destination in the building,” said Mayor Bevilacqua. “The directory is image-based and provides an additional level of accessibility, an important feature, especially in a growing City such as Vaughan.”

Users of the directory can find their destination or service by browsing the touch screen display or by using a keyword search. Once a selection has been made, a map will provide directions. The unit is also installed with QR codes for each map. When the codes are scanned to a QR reader on a Smartphone, the information requested will become available on the phone’s browser via a link with the City’s website. The directory also provides viewers with information on City Hall’s environmentally-friendly features.

“I would like to acknowledge the excellent work of our Information and Technology Management Department that managed the project including the creative development of the 3D building content,” said City Manager Clayton Harris. “The directory is unique in that it was developed to meet the City of Vaughan’s specific application.”
