The City of Vaughan has earned an Award of Excellence for its business development publication Vaughan Building a Gateway to Tomorrow’s Economy. The 2011 marketing award was given by the Economic Developers Council of Ontario (EDCO). Vaughan  Council was presented with the award yesterday by members of the City’s Economic Development Department.

"This award recognizes the best in economic development programs and marketing materials," said Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua. "Receiving the Award of Excellence from EDCO demonstrates our commitment to providing first class resources for residents and businesses who call Vaughan home as well as those who are looking to locate and grow their business here. As a successful and growing City, we understand the need to be innovative and effectively apply leading-edge thinking in order to keep the community informed and engaged.”‬

The 16-page publication was designed as an executive summary to accompany the City’s 178- page, 10-year Economic Development Strategy.

The latest marketing technologies were incorporated into the executive summary, using printed QR codes to reference specific sections of the strategy. The QR codes allow smart-phone users to connect to online content on Vaughan’s website, making the executive summary an efficient communications tool.
“I am proud of the commitment and dedication of the City’s Economic Development team and the recognition they are receiving for continuing to provide best in class economic development services,” said City Manager Clayton Harris. “The City is very pleased to receive this prestigious award of excellence from the Economic Developers Council of Ontario.”

EDCO’s annual Awards of Excellence recognize the province’s best-in-class economic development programs. They honour organizations for their efforts in creating a growing economy in Ontario. There were more than 130 entries with a total of 24 award winners in four categories: Business Development, Tourism Marketing Initiatives, Product Development and the Lieutenant Governor’s Awards for Marketing Excellence in Ontario.

EDCO is the country’s largest provincial economic development association and is comprised of more than 600 members from both private and public sectors who are actively engaged in the economic development profession in Ontario.
