Vaughan wins 2016 United Way Spirit Award

City recognized for ‘Together Vaughan Cares’ campaign that raised more than $100,000

The City of Vaughan’s innovative and educational 2016 fundraising program was recognized with a Campaign Team Spirit Award from United Way Toronto and York Region at a gala event on Feb. 7. With the Together Vaughan Cares program, the City had a record-breaking year while putting a focus on fun ways to raise awareness and funds in support of the charity.

The City’s United Way committee set three goals for 2016 – 20 per cent increase in participation, 20 per cent increase in total giving and 20 per cent increase in Leadership Level giving – and achieved all three. A wide variety of events and activities were held to engage staff, including the I’m Thankful Campaign through which employees expressed their gratitude to each other with thank you cards and treats, and a speaker series featuring inspirational stories from people who receive support from the United Way.

The City’s 2016 campaign was nominated for two awards – the Campaign Team Spirit Award and the Leadership Campaign Spirit Award.
