Vaughan Wins Miller Cup Five Years In A Row

Vaughan is the Miller Cup champion for a fifth consecutive year. The City’s Public Works team once again placed first at the annual York Area Municipalities Public Works Week Challenge Event which took place May 23. Vaughan competed against nine other municipalities in a skills competition held in conjunction with National Public Works Week, May 20 to 26.

“The employees in our Public Works Department have the important role of keeping the infrastructure of our City working smoothly and operating at the high level we have all come to appreciate,” said Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua. “The roads and bridges we drive on, the streets where we live, the water we drink, along with our sewer systems, garbage and recycling – this infrastructure is a key element in the exceptional quality of life in the City of Vaughan.”

Amanda Ciccoritti of the Woodbridge Art School created the award-winning murals for best-decorated truck.

At the Public Works Week Challenge Event, Vaughan also won the best-decorated truck award. The truck’s plows featured scenes of the City’s history and new City Hall.

Amanda Ciccoritti of the Woodbridge Art School created the award-winning murals, capturing the theme of ‘creating a lasting impression’ through her work. The series of paintings build up in colour and tell the story of Vaughan’s history, from its small town roots to a place of opportunity.

“Producing a piece that pays tribute to Public Works was a rewarding experience for me,” said Amanda. “I had the opportunity to get to know the staff behind the scenes, who play a key role in making Vaughan such an amazing city.”

Amanda Ciccoritti is an instructor of fine arts at the Woodbridge Art School. She also travels to schools across York Region teaching children as part of their “Artist in the School” program. Woodbridge Art School is York Region’s largest fine art school, celebrating 18 years of inspiring artists of all ages.
