Residents recently joined Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua and Members of Council at a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the official opening of Freedom Trail Park which features the City's first neighbourhood-level skate park.

"Vaughan is a green City and Freedom Trail Park is another example of our commitment to environmental stewardship," said Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua. "Parks and green spaces are an integral part of the urban landscape and help to promote a healthy environment. We are providing our residents with outdoor recreational opportunities which contribute to healthy lifestyle choices."

Freedom Trail Park is 1.55 hectares in size and features a neighbourhood-level skate park, senior and junior playgrounds, mini soccer field and a shade structure. It is located at 121 Freedom Trail.

A neighbourhood-level skate park is designed for those learning to skateboard. Freedom Trail Park's "skate zone" features a funbox, grinding rail, quarter pipe and rail wall. It is ideal for users who may not be ready for the advanced skills required at major skateboard parks.

"Freedom Trail Park is the first of many wonderful additions to our growing community, and will provide recreational opportunities for people of all ages," said Ward 4 Councillor Sandra Yeung Racco. "I would like to remind the community to think of safety first and I encourage everyone to wear a helmet and other safety equipment while enjoying the skate park."
