We have pets in need of a ‘fur-ever’ home!

Vaughan Animal Services (VAS) currently has an influx of pets needing their forever home. If you are thinking about welcoming a pet into your family, consider adopting from the shelter! Check out the City of Vaughan’s online list of all dogscats and small animals available for adoption.

Although adopting a pet can be a rewarding experience, it is also a big decision to make. There are many things to consider before bringing an animal into your home:

  • All family members should come into the shelter to meet your potential pet. If you have other pets at home, they should also meet the animal you are considering adopting. An appointment is required for dog meet and greets.
  • Adopters must be 18 years of age or older and will need to fill out an application at the shelter before final approval.
  • Once approved, you will need to pay the adoption fee, which is $270 for a dog or puppy and $170 for a cat or kitten. This fee includes the pet’s rabies and first annual vaccine, sterilization, microchip implant and their first annual licence (for Vaughan residents only).

All dogs and cats in Vaughan must wear a licence (numbered tag), purchased from the City, at all times. You can register for and renew a pet license online

The Vaughan Animal Shelter is located at 70 Tigi Crt., Unit 47, and is open Monday to Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for adoptions). The shelter is closed to the public on Sundays and statutory holidays.

If your pet gets lost, contact VAS immediately at 905-832-2281; staff will work to help reunite you and your pet as safely and quickly as possible. Visit vaughan.ca/AnimalServices for more information.
