City service changes and modified hours on Monday, Feb. 21

The day for spending time with family, friends and loved ones is almost here. With that in mind, the City of Vaughan is reminding citizens about facility closures, alternate hours and changes in programming on Monday, Feb. 21.

Municipal facilities

Most facilities – including Vaughan City Hall and the Joint Operations Centre – remain closed to the public until further notice in response to COVID-19. Essential services, such as fire and emergency response and by-law and enforcement services, continue uninterrupted. Non-essential administrative services will close on Monday, Feb. 21 and resume on Tuesday, Feb. 22.

Community centres and recreational programming

All Vaughan community centres will remain open on Monday, Feb. 21 for Family Day programming. The free, family-friendly, drop-in recreational activities at community centres will run from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Pre-registration is required at vaughan.perfectmind.com. All regularly scheduled recreation programs and swim lessons are cancelled on Monday, Feb. 21. When visiting your local community centre to enjoy a free activity, consider bringing a non-perishable food item to help a family in need. The City will donate all items to the Vaughan Food Bank.

For more information, including a list of activities, visit vaughan.ca/recreation or watch this video demonstration on how to register for a drop-in program. If you require assistance registering, call Access Vaughan at 905-832-2281 or email RecCSD@vaughan.ca.

You can also continue to enjoy exercise classes with Vaughan Fitness through the free, virtual video classes available anytime on Recreation Services’ YouTube channel.

If you’re looking for some exercise and outdoor fun on Family Day, the City’s five outdoor rinks at Chancellor Community Centre, Dufferin Clark Community Centre, Father Ermanno Bulfon Community Centre, Vellore Village Community Centre and Garnet A. Williams Community Centre will remain open on Monday, Feb. 21, weather permitting. You can also explore the City’s Great Walks of Vaughan nature trails and community walks. Visit vaughan.ca/GreatWalks for additional information, including maps, locations, distances and more.

Vaughan Public Libraries

Three of Vaughan Public Libraries (VPL) locations, including Ansley Grove Library, Pleasant Ridge Library and Vellore Village Library, will be open on Family Day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will offer a variety of in-person activities, such as scavenger hunts, mystery bags, puzzles, Foldify and more. If you are opting to stay at home, you can enjoy many online activities available through VPL’s website, including BINGO, I Spy, lava lamps, sensory bins and more. Citizens can also access the VPL’s digital collection, which includes eBooks and audiobooks, films and television programs, music streaming services, e-learning courses, bilingual materials and more, all available online.

Bathurst Clark, Civic Centre, Dufferin Clark, Kleinburg, Mackenzie Health, Pierre Berton and Woodbridge Vaughan Public Libraries branches will be closed on Monday, Feb. 21 and will reopen on Tuesday, Feb. 22.

To view VPL locations and hours, visit vaughanpl.info. Please note Maple Library remains closed for renovations.

Waste collection

As there is no curbside pickup on Mondays, waste collection will not be affected on Monday, Feb. 21. Please have waste set out by 7 a.m. on your regularly scheduled collection day. For the complete curbside collection schedule for 2022, visit vaughan.ca/WasteCalendar.

While community centres are closed on Monday, Feb. 21, citizens can still purchase blue boxes, green bins and garbage tags online and register to exchange broken City-issued bins through Service Vaughan.
