It’s almost Family Day weekend, and although there will be some facility closures and alternate hours, there is still plenty of fun to be had around Vaughan! Here is all you need to know to plan ahead and spend some quality time with family, friends and loved ones on Monday, Feb. 20.

Municipal facilities
Most facilities – including Vaughan City Hall – will be closed on Monday, Feb. 20, reopening on Tuesday, Feb. 21. Essential services, such as fire and emergency response and by-law and enforcement services, will continue uninterrupted. Non-essential administrative services will resume on Tuesday, Feb. 21, by phone, email, online and in-person.

Community centres and recreational programming
Regularly scheduled recreation programs and swim lessons will not operate on Family Day, however, community centres will remain open on Monday, Feb. 20 and operate on modified hours from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Special Family Day programming and activities will be offered at select locations and include crafting, badminton, cricket, and Zumba.  Pre-registration is required at vaughan.perfectmind.com.

Half price recreational swimming and skating, as well as $5 drop-in family sports times will also be offered at community centres across the city. Community centres are cashless; credit, debit and cheque are the only acceptable forms of payment. Pre-registration and pre-payment is available for convenience seven days in advance at vaughan.perfectmind.com.

The new Vaughan Studios & Event Space will offer free tours from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., along with free program demonstrations for young families. Highlights include: cupcake creations, Disney-inspired fitness, crafting, dancing, and CPR. Pre-registration is not required.

For more information, including a list of activities, visit vaughan.ca/recreation or watch this video demonstration on how to register for a drop-in program. If you require assistance registering, call Service Vaughan at 905-832-2281 or email RecCSD@vaughan.ca.

If you’re looking to get some exercise and enjoy a day of outdoor fun, the City’s four outdoor rinks at Chancellor Community Centre, Dufferin Clark Community Centre, Father Ermanno Bulfon Community Centre and Vellore Village Community Centre will remain open on Monday, Feb. 20, weather permitting. You can also enjoy the newly opened outdoor skating trail at Sports Village, weather permitting. All outdoor rinks are open daily until 11 p.m., except for Father Ermanno Bulfon, which closes at 10:30 p.m. Rinks are also subject to daily closures for regular maintenance between 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Wednesdays at Chancellor and Dufferin Clark community centres, and on Thursdays at Father Ermanno Bulfon and Vellore Village community centres.

Due to ongoing construction, the outdoor rink at Garnet A. Williams Community Centre will not be open this season.
