Family Day Closures

Family Day is fast approaching, and the City of Vaughan is reminding you about facility closures and alternate hours on Monday, Feb. 19.

Here is everything you need to know:

Municipal facilities

Most facilities – including Vaughan City Hall – will be closed on Monday, Feb. 19, reopening on Tuesday, Feb. 20. Essential services, such as fire and emergency response and by-law and enforcement services, will continue uninterrupted. Non-essential administrative services will resume on Tuesday, Feb. 20, by phone, email, online and in person.

While the City’s in-person contact centre will be closed on Monday, Feb. 19, a live agent will be available by phone at 905-832-2281 to respond to municipal emergencies.

Community centres and recreational programming

Community centres will remain open on Monday, Feb. 19 and operate on modified hours from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Regularly scheduled recreation programs and swim lessons will not operate on Family Day. Special Family Day programming and activities will also be offered at select locations and include archery, badminton, crafting, Zumba and more. Registration is required at vaughan.perfectmind.com

Half-price recreational swimming and skating and $5 drop-in family sports and activities will also be offered at community centres across the city. Community centres are cashless; credit, debit and cheque are the only acceptable forms of payment. Registration and pre-payment are available for convenience seven days in advance at vaughan.perfectmind.com. All proceeds from Family Day programs will be donated to RecAssist, the City’s fee assistance program which helps low-income families subsidize the cost of recreation programs.

For more information, visit vaughan.ca/recreation or watch this video demonstration on how to register for a drop-in program. If you require assistance registering, call Service Vaughan at 905-832-2281 or email RecCSD@vaughan.ca

You can also explore the City’s Great Walks of Vaughan nature trails and community walks. Visit vaughan.ca/GreatWalks for additional information, including maps, locations, distances and more.

Vaughan Public Libraries

Three Vaughan Public Libraries (VPL) locations, including Maple Library, Pleasant Ridge Library and Vellore Village Library, will be open on Family Day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

All other VPL branches will be closed on Monday, Feb. 19, reopening on Tuesday, Feb. 20.

You can also have fun at home with VPL! With an internet connection and a VPL library card, you can enjoy many free online resources available through VPL’s website, including access to eBooks and eAudiobooks, films and television programs, music streaming services, e-learning courses, bilingual materials and more.

Waste collection

There is no waste collection on Mondays, so waste collection for the week will not change. Remember to have waste set out by 7 a.m. on your regular waste pickup day. For the complete curbside collection schedule, visit vaughan.ca/WasteCalendar.

You can register online to purchase garbage tags, blue boxes and green bins and exchange broken City-branded bins through Service Vaughan. For more information on waste services, visit vaughan.ca/waste.
