What’s open and closed in Vaughan over the holidays
With the December break just around the corner, the City
of Vaughan is reminding citizens about facility closures, alternate hours and
changes in programming from Friday, Dec. 24, 2021 to Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2022.
Municipal facilities
Most
facilities – including Vaughan City Hall and the Joint Operations Centre –
remain closed to the public until further notice in response to COVID-19.
Essential services, such as fire and emergency response and by-law and
enforcement services, continue uninterrupted daily, including over the holidays.
Non-essential administrative services will close on Friday, Dec. 24 at noon and
resume on Tuesday, Jan. 4.
Community centres and
recreational programming
All Vaughan community centres will be closed
on Saturday, Dec. 25 and Saturday, Jan. 1. Fitness, aquafitness and swim
classes and recreational sessions will not be available on those days. You can
continue to enjoy exercise classes with Vaughan Fitness through the free,
virtual video classes available anytime on Recreation Services’
YouTube channel. As a reminder, Garnet A. Williams Community
Centre
remains closed for renovations. Community centre hours of operation over
the holidays can be viewed on the holidays webpage.
Recreational swimming, skating, shinny hockey, sports and game rooms will be available over the holidays at select community centres. Pre-registration and pre-payment is available for your convenience at vaughan.perfectmind.com. For information on recreational activities and links to regsitration, visit vaughan.ca/recreation.
If you’re looking for some exercise and outdoor fun over the holidays, the City’s five outdoor rinks at Chancellor Community Centre, Dufferin Clark Community Centre, Father Ermanno Bulfon Community Centre, Vellore Village Community Centre and Garnet A. Williams Community Centre will remain open throughout the December break, weather permitting. You can also explore the City’s Great Walks of Vaughan nature trails and community walks. Libraries
All Vaughan Public
Libraries (VPL) branches will close on Friday, Dec. 24 at noon and will reopen Monday,
Dec. 27. These branches will also be closed on Friday, Dec. 31 at noon and will
reopen on Sunday, Jan. 2. To view the hours of operation at all branches,

reminder, Maple
Library remains closed for renovations.
Have fun at home with VPL over the holidays! Citizens can still access many free digital items – including eBooks and audiobooks, films and television programs, music streaming services, e-learning courses, bilingual materials and more – through VPL at Home.
Waste collection
Waste collection will not be affected over
the holidays. Please have waste set out by 7 a.m. Remember, Christmas tree
collection takes place the weeks of Tuesday, Jan. 4 and Tuesday, Jan. 11 on
your regularly scheduled collection days. Double-up Days also take place the
same weeks, on your regular garbage collection day. For the complete curbside

While community centres are closed Saturday, Dec. 25 and Saturday, Jan. 1, citizens can still purchase blue boxes, green bins and garbage tags online and register to exchange broken City-issued bins through Service Vaughan.

Vaughan Animal Services
The
Vaughan Animal Services Shelter remains closed to the public over the December
break. Appointment-only adoption and pet recovery services are unavailable on
Saturday, Dec. 25 and Saturday, Jan. 1. Citizens can purchase pet licensing
tags online at any time through Service Vaughan. For more information, visit vaughan.ca/AnimalServices.
Access Vaughan
Access Vaughan will be open to take your calls
on Wednesday, Dec. 29 and Thursday, Dec. 30 from 8:3 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and on
Friday, Dec. 31 from 8:30 a.m. to noon, and will reopen on Tuesday, Jan. 4 at
8:30 a.m. Although closed on those days, a 24-7 dispatcher will answer calls
regarding municipal emergencies. For information about City programs and
