Upcoming City service changes and modified hours

With the December break just around the corner, the City of Vaughan is reminding citizens about facility closures, alternate hours and changes in programming from Friday, Dec. 24, 2021 to Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2022.

Municipal facilities
Most facilities – including Vaughan City Hall and the Joint Operations Centre – remain closed to the public until further notice in response to COVID-19. Essential services, such as fire and emergency response and by-law and enforcement services, continue uninterrupted daily, including over the holidays. Non-essential administrative services will close on Friday, Dec. 24 at noon and resume on Tuesday, Jan. 4.

Community centres and recreational programming
All Vaughan community centres will be closed on Saturday, Dec. 25 and Saturday, Jan. 1. Fitness, aquafitness and swim classes and recreational sessions will not be available on those days. You can continue to enjoy exercise classes with Vaughan Fitness through the free, virtual video classes available anytime on Recreation Services’ YouTube channel. As a reminder, Garnet A. Williams Community Centre remains closed for renovations. Community centre hours of operation over the holidays can be viewed on the holidays webpage.

Recreational swimming, skating, shinny hockey, sports and game rooms will be available over the holidays at select community centres. Pre-registration and pre-payment is available for your convenience at vaughan.perfectmind.com. For information on recreational activities and links to regsitration, visit vaughan.ca/recreation.

If you’re looking for some exercise and outdoor fun over the holidays, the City’s five outdoor rinks at Chancellor Community Centre, Dufferin Clark Community Centre, Father Ermanno Bulfon Community Centre, Vellore Village Community Centre and Garnet A. Williams Community Centre will remain open throughout the December break, weather permitting. You can also explore the City’s Great Walks of Vaughan nature trails and community walks. Visit vaughan.ca/GreatWalks for additional information, including maps, locations, distances and more.

Vaughan Public Libraries
All Vaughan Public Libraries (VPL) branches will close on Friday, Dec. 24 at noon and will reopen Monday, Dec. 27. These branches will also be closed on Friday, Dec. 31 at noon and will reopen on Sunday, Jan. 2. To view the hours of operation at all branches, visit vaughanpl.info. As a reminder, Maple Library remains closed for renovations.

Have fun at home with VPL over the holidays! Citizens can still access many free digital items – including eBooks and audiobooks, films and television programs, music streaming services, e-learning courses, bilingual materials and more – through VPL at Home.

Waste collection
Waste collection will not be affected over the holidays. Please have waste set out by 7 a.m. Remember, Christmas tree collection takes place the weeks of Tuesday, Jan. 4 and Tuesday, Jan. 11 on your regularly scheduled collection days. Double-up Days also take place the same weeks, on your regular garbage collection day. For the complete curbside collection schedule for both 2021 and 2022, visit vaughan.ca/WasteCalendar.

While community centres are closed Saturday, Dec. 25 and Saturday, Jan. 1, citizens can still purchase blue boxes, green bins and garbage tags online and register to exchange broken City-issued bins through Service Vaughan.
