What’s open and closed in Vaughan on Thanksgiving
The time to give thanks and celebrate Thanksgiving with
loved ones is just around the corner. Before making holiday plans, please be
aware of the following City of Vaughan facility closures and modified hours on
Monday, Oct. 10.
Municipal facilities
Most
facilities – including Vaughan City Hall – will be closed on Monday, Oct. 10,
reopening on Tuesday, Oct. 11. Essential services, such as fire and emergency
response and by-law and enforcement services, will continue uninterrupted. Non-essential
administrative services will resume on Tuesday, Oct. 11, by phone, email,
online and in-person.
Community centres and recreational programming
Vaughan
community centres will be closed on Monday, Oct. 10. Fall recreation programs, drop-in
activities, swim lessons and aquatic leadership courses will not be running on
this day and will resume on Tuesday, Oct. 11. For information on classes and
recreational activities, visit vaughan.ca/recreation. Pre-registration and
pre-payment for drop-in activities are available one week in advance on vaughan.perfectmind.com.
On Thanksgiving Day, you can still enjoy a fun exercise session at home with free full-length fitness classes (40- to 60-minutes long) available on the Recreation Services’ YouTube channel. For more information, visit vaughan.ca/recreation.
Outdoor park amenities
The following outdoor amenities will remain open
on Monday, Oct. 10:
- baseball fields
- basketball courts
- bocce courts
- off-leash dog areas
- outdoor exercise equipment
- playgrounds
- skateboard parks
- soccer fields
- tennis and pickleball courts
- trails
- volleyball court
Please note the washrooms at Matthew Park (located at 1 Villa Royale Ave.) are closed for the season.
Vaughan Public Libraries (VPL)
All VPL branches will be
closed on Monday, Oct. 10
and will reopen on Tuesday, Oct. 11 with regular operating hours. To

You can access many free digital items – including eBooks and audiobooks, films and television programs, music streaming services, e-learning courses, bilingual materials and more – any time through VPL at Home.
Waste collection
There is no waste collection on Mondays,
so waste collection for the week will not change. Please have waste set out by
7 a.m. on your regular waste pickup day. For the complete curbside collection schedule,
visit vaughan.ca/WasteCalendar.
You can register online to purchase garbage tags, blue boxes and green bins and exchange broken City-branded bins through Service Vaughan. For more information on waste services, visit vaughan.ca/waste.
Vaughan Animal Services
The Vaughan Animal
Services Shelter will be closed to the public on Monday, Oct. 10 and will reopen
on Tuesday, Oct. 11. You can purchase pet licensing tags online at any time through Service Vaughan. For more information, visit vaughan.ca/AnimalServices.
The
City’s contact centre will be closed on Monday, Oct. 10. However, a live agent
will be available to respond to municipal emergencies. For additional information
