The City’s contact centre can be reached by phone at 905-832-2281 (toll-free: 1-844-832-2112), email at service@vaughan.ca or in-person at Vaughan City Hall (2141 Major Mackenzie Dr.).

Every month, the City releases common questions received and responded to by Service Vaughan in a series called ‘You Asked, We Answered.’ Below are the top five inquiries from January:

1. Where do I request winter maintenance on my street or sidewalk?

Vaughan’s winter crews are ready to take on the snowy weather – and you can request winter maintenance, like plowing, on your street, a sidewalk or walkway, through Service Vaughan’s online portal under ‘Winter Maintenance’. Enter your address or drop a pin on the map to submit a request, and crews will respond in priority sequence.

To report a winter-related municipal emergency or problem that requires immediate attention, call Service Vaughan at 905-832-2281. The following examples are considered municipal emergency requests:

  • Icy road or sidewalk
  • Icy crosswalk in school zone

2. Where can I find a digital version of my 2023 Waste Collection Schedule?

If you haven’t received your 2023 Waste Collection Schedule, or prefer to view it on your computer or mobile device, you can view or download a digital version at vaughan.ca/WasteCalendar.

The schedule details how to purchase new garbage tags, blue boxes and green bins and exchange damaged City-branded waste bins for new ones. It also highlights Double-Up Days, leaf and yard waste collection and other important waste services.

You will also find quick tips and reminders on the correct bins and bags for waste materials, including the weight and size restrictions, accepted curbside.

3. I’m not sure where some items belong for waste collection. Where can I find information on what goes where?

The City has a ‘What Goes Where?’ online tool to help you determine how to sort waste collection items. To get started, type in an item – for example, coffee cups, latex gloves, tissues, cellphones or fluorescent light bulbs – and the tool will tell you which bin it should be placed in, or where to take it for proper disposal.

You can also download the free Recycle Coach app on your mobile phone. Found in the Apple App Store and Google Play, it tells you where and how to dispose of your waste. The app also helps you stay up to date with your waste collection schedule and offers tips on how to waste less.
