You asked, we answered

Have a question about a service in Vaughan? Want to know more about a City program? The Service Vaughan team is standing by ready to respond to your inquiries. The City of Vaughan’s contact centre can be reached by phone at 905-832-2281 (toll-free: 1-844-832-2112), email at service@vaughan.ca, online at vaughan.ca/ServiceVaughan or in-person at Vaughan City Hall (2141 Major Mackenzie Dr.).

Every month, the City releases a series called ‘You Asked, We Answered,’ where common questions received and responded to by Service Vaughan are highlighted.

Below are the top five inquiries from January:

1. Does the City of Vaughan offer school break programs for kids?

Sign your kids up for Passover Break camps and March Break camps so they can take part in fun-filled days of arts and crafts, sports, games, dancing, themed activities and outdoor play (weather permitting). Online registration is available through vaughan.perfectmind.com until 7 a.m. on the day of the first session, after which in-person registration at any City community centre may be requested for select programs. The City also offers P.A. Day programs for children aged three to 14 years old at select Vaughan community centres and the Vaughan Studios & Event Space. Programs for the last P.A. Day of the year on Friday, June 7 will be available to view in the Spring Recreation eGuide beginning Monday, Feb. 5. Watch tutorial videos on the Recreation Services YouTube channel to find out more about the online registration system.

2. How can I stay updated on the City’s winter operations?

The City operates an extensive winter maintenance program, including salting, windrow clearing, plowing and snow removal along more than 2,200 lane-kilometres of roads and 1,200 sidewalks throughout Vaughan. To stay informed on our winter operations, visit vaughan.ca/snow. For additional details and to receive the latest information:

3. Where do I request winter maintenance on my street or sidewalk?

Vaughan’s winter crews are ready to take on the snowy weather – and you can request winter maintenance, like plowing on your street, a sidewalk or walkway, through Service Vaughan’s online portal under ‘Winter Maintenance’. Enter your address or drop a pin on the map to submit a request and crews will respond in priority sequence.

To report a winter-related municipal emergency or problem that requires immediate attention – such as an icy road or sidewalk, or icy crosswalk in a school zone – call Service Vaughan at 905-832-2281.

4. How do I set out my waste in the winter?

In the winter, garbage, blue boxes and green bins should be placed back from the curb approximately one metre (three feet) on the right-hand side of the driveway (when facing the home) where possible, to minimize the chance of bins being knocked over by plows. This allows the City to collect your waste safely and to clear snow effectively and efficiently in residential areas. Do not place bins on top of snow piles as this can be dangerous for collectors reaching for your bins.

Remember to place all items curbside by 7 a.m. on your scheduled collection day. Staff will not return for materials set out late. Pickup times may be impacted by winter weather.

For more information, visit the Winter Waste Set-out webpage or watch the Winter Waste Collection instructional video.

5. How do I book or cancel my parking ticket dispute appointment?

You can dispute a parking ticket online or by phone. Here’s how:

  • Dispute your ticket online: Complete the Administrative Monetary Penalty Screening form within 15 days of receiving your ticket. You will need the Penalty Notice Number to complete the form. Upload the completed form and any supporting documents or photos. If you are not the registered vehicle owner, you will need a letter of authorization to dispute a ticket on the owner’s behalf. The screening officer will review your online submission and respond accordingly.

  • Dispute your ticket by phone: Request a screening appointment within 15 days of receiving your ticket by emailing parking.permit@vaughan.ca or calling Service Vaughan at 905-832-2281. You will be able to dispute your ticket and a screening officer will respond accordingly. If you are not the registered vehicle owner, indicate so and provide a letter of authorization to dispute a ticket on the owner’s behalf.

If you do not contact the City – by phone, email or submitting a dispute form online within 15 days of receiving your ticket – the ticket will become due and payable. For more information about parking in Vaughan, visit vaughan.ca/parking
