Every month, the City releases popular questions received and responded to by Access Vaughan in a series called ‘You Asked, We Answered.’ Below are the top five inquiries received in January.

1. When does the City clear windrows?

The City’s goal is to have windrows cleared within four hours after snowplows have passed. However, factors such as heavy snowfalls and cars parked on the street or too close to the curb can delay these operations.

Windrow machines are designed to clear a portion of the driveway entrance so a car can drive through snow left by plows at the end of the driveway. Due to the limited size and reach of the windrow-clearing units, they can only clear a portion of the driveway entrance. The windrow service does not clear public laneways or windrows left by sidewalk plows and does not clear hardened snow, ice or the entire driveway. It is the responsibility of residents to clear the small windrow across a driveway created by sidewalk plows.

Remember, it's illegal to shovel snow or ice onto the road – be mindful of where you're putting snow when you're clearing your sidewalk or driveway. Read the Ontario Highway Traffic Act – section 181 to learn more. Visit vaughan.ca/snow to learn more about Vaughan’s winter operations.

2. How do I book or cancel a parking dispute appointment?

To schedule an appointment to dispute a parking ticket, contact the City’s By-law and Compliance, Licensing and Permit Services department by emailing parking.permit@vaughan.ca or calling 905-832-2281, or by completing the AMPS Screening form online within 15 days of receiving a parking ticket. Disputes are being conducted over the phone due to the global COVID-19 pandemic until further notice. If you are unable to make a scheduled appointment, you can use an agent to dispute the penalty on your behalf.

A request to change or cancel a screening appointment must be made no later than 24 hours before a scheduled appointment by emailing parking.permit@vaughan.ca or calling 905-832-2281. Learn more at vaughan.ca/parking.

3. How do I exchange or purchase a City-issued blue box or green bin?

Purchase a brand-new blue box or green bin through Service Vaughan. Home delivery fees of $3.00 per bin will apply (maximum four bins per order). You can also purchase a blue box or green bin, as well as garbage tags, at the following community centres:

4. When are the 2022 property tax due dates?

The 2022 interim residential and non-residential tax bill due dates are as follows:

  • Tuesday, March 29
  • Friday, April 29
  • Friday, May 27

The 2022 final billing for residential/farm and, new this year, all non-residential property owners will be issued in June. The 2022 final due dates for all properties are still to be determined but will fall in July, August and September.

5. How do I reactivate my fitness or pool membership?

The City of Vaughan is pleased to welcome residents back into its community centres, fitness centres, arenas, swimming pools and Community Libraries. This comes following the Province of Ontario’s recent announcement that it is cautiously and gradually easing COVID-19 public health measures effective Jan. 31. Fitness and pool memberships were put on hold, without penalty, for the duration of the community centre closures. In advance of booking a fitness class, recreational/length swim or aquafitness class, members are advised to reactivate their memberships as this is required to access the fitness centre or pool; otherwise, the single-visit fee will be applied. To reactivate your membership, email RecCSD@vaughan.ca or call Access Vaughan at 905-832-2281 or visit your local community centre. Visit vaughan.ca/recreation to learn more.
