2011 Report to Citizens Marks a New Era for Vaughan
The City of Vaughan has published its 2011 Report to Citizens, A New Era which is being delivered to Vaughan households and businesses beginning this week. The report highlights the City’s achievements from the past year and incorporates an overview of municipal finances.
"We are embarking on a new era and the path forward is a positive one,” said Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua. “The subway extension, our downtown development and the hospital are all taking shape and we’re starting to see what the future will look like. We can be proud of how we, collectively are working to realize our potential as a world-class city. I encourage all our residents to read the 2011 Report to Citizens and share in our City’s accomplishments.”
The 20-page report highlights City projects and initiatives including the creation of the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre sub-committee to promote the City’s new downtown area and a Design Review Panel, the first in York Region, to ensure high quality architecture and planning concepts. Other successes include:
• Receiving a 98 per cent survey rating by residents for the quality of life in Vaughan.
• One of the lowest municipal tax rate increases in the GTA.
• Receiving a 100 per cent perfect score by the Ministry of the Environment for the City’s water distribution systems.
• Surpassing the billion dollar mark in construction activity for the sixth consecutive year.
• Opening of the new eco-friendly City Hall, a state-of-the-art building designed to achieve Gold certification for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED).
• Receiving numerous staff awards from external organizations in the areas of financial management, environmental stewardship, public engagement, community services, and City publications.
