City of Vaughan Announces Appointment of New Directors

The City of Vaughan has filled two new senior positions, created as a result of the Corporate Structure Review approved by Council last November.

Tim Simmonds has been promoted from Director of Economic Development to Executive Director supporting the City Manager’s Office. Paul Wallis has joined the City as Director of Internal Audit. An executive search and interview process were conducted for both positions.

“As a growing municipality, we are focused on responding to and managing change so our residents can be confident that the City will make the most of future opportunities,” said Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua. “These appointments reflect our efforts to have the right people in the right positions, allowing us to deliver on our commitment of service excellence.

Tim Simmonds - Executive Director

As Executive Director, Tim Simmonds will provide senior management level advice, information, and support to the City Manager’s Office, as well as oversee the Economic Development department and Corporate Communications. A graduate of the University of Oklahoma Economic Development Institute, he has held progressive management positions in the public and private sectors in the areas of business development and marketing communications. Prior to joining the City of Vaughan in 2009, he was the Senior Economic Development Officer for the Town of Oakville.

Paul Wallis - Director of Internal Audit

The City’s new Director of Internal Audit is Paul Wallis. He is a Certified Management Accountant (CMA), a certified member of the Institute of Internal Auditors (CIA) and a certified member of the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (CISA). Most recently, he was the Director and Head of Internal Audit for the Region of Peel. Prior to joining the Region, he spent ten years at the Province of Ontario including a senior position as Executive Lead and Strategic Advisor for the Audit Centre for Excellence responsible for audit standards and best practices.

“As these two appointments demonstrate, we continue to establish a high level of professionalism throughout the organization,” said City Manager Clayton Harris. “The Executive Director supports the office of the City Manager in moving the City’s corporate priorities forward,  while the Director of Internal Audit is responsible for reviewing City services to ensure they are provided effectively and to assess areas of corporate risk and make recommendations.”
