Calling all lifeguards and swim instructors!

We’re hiring qualified staff aged 15 and older

 

Following a recent announcement from the Province of Ontario, the City of Vaughan is lowering the minimum age to be a lifeguard and swim instructor to 15 years old. This change aligns with updated age requirements established by the Lifesaving Society’s lifeguard and lifesaving and swim instructor certification courses.

 

Do you or someone you know now qualify to be a lifeguard? Then attend one of the upcoming in-water interviews at your local pool:

 

Dufferin Clark Pool

  • Tuesday, June 6 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
  • Thursday, July 13 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

 

Woodbridge Pool

  • Thursday, June 8 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Thursday, July 20 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

 

Registration in advance is required at vaughan.perfectmind.com.

 

To work as a lifeguard and/or swim instructor, you must:

  • be eligible to work in Canada.
  • be at least 15 years of age.
  • have a Social Insurance Number.
  • be Standard First Aid and CPR-C certified.
  • be national lifeguard and/or lifesaving, and swim instructor certified.
  • pass a Police Vulnerable Sector Check (can obtain upon hire).

Those who are hired will work at one of 10 indoor pools or an outdoor pool this summer to earn spending money or savings toward school while gaining important life experience and references for their resume or college/university application.

 

Job perks include flexible work hours and shifts seven days a week, discounted courses for specialty certifications which can lead to higher-paying aquatic leadership positions, a discounted Vaughan Fitness membership and competitive wages. Compensation for lifeguards is $17-17.50 per hour. Compensation for swim instructors is $18.50 per hour.

Interested in training to be a lifeguard?

The City offers training and certification in aquatic leadership courses on an ongoing basis for residents aged 13 years and older to prepare youth for future employment as a swim instructor or lifeguard. Details can be found at vaughan.ca/swim.
