Mayor’s Gala raises more than $700,000

The City of Vaughan is filled with citizens who understand the value of giving back to make the community a better place. The spirit of generosity was demonstrated at the annual Mayor’s Gala on June 8, presented by the award winning Two Sisters Vineyards, raising more than $700,000 with over 800 people in attendance.

Since 2011, a total of $6.2 million have been raised through the Gala and the Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua Annual Charity Golf Classic. The proceeds from these events go to help more than 150 not-for-profit and community organizations that provide essential services to the City and beyond. These groups are dedicated to important work that supports everyone from youth and seniors to people with special needs and women’s centres.

As part of Vaughan’s commitment to support the development of healthcare services close to home, guests were invited to participate in a live auction, an exclusive winery tour and gourmet dinner with Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua at Two Sisters Vineyards. The business community demonstrated their spirit of giving by bidding a record-breaking $350,000 – funds that will go directly to Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital.

This year’s theme was Spirit of our City and it celebrated Vaughan’s renewed energy and spiritual dimension – one rooted in hope, faith and optimism. Canadian musical group, the Montreal Rhapsody Orchestra, kicked off the evening at Universal EventSpace with a headline performance that had the guests dancing along to a string of hits.

QUOTE

When people unite for a good cause, rooted in the core values of generosity, optimism and gratitude – magic happens. As Mayor, my most important priority is to move this city forward without leaving anyone behind. I believe in the importance of giving back. This is what truly gives purpose to our lives as human beings and citizens of the world – a simple act of kindness has the profound power to change lives. I am grateful to the groups and individuals who play a vital role in making our city the kind, caring and compassionate place it is. It is that commitment to positive change that allows us to continue to make a meaningful difference to thousands of lives.”
