Citizens invited to celebrate Canada Day at free event
Boyd Conservation Area hosts this year’s festivities
Get ready to celebrate
Canada Day at one of the largest parties in York Region. The City of Vaughan’s award-winning
annual event takes place on Sunday, July 1 from noon to 8 p.m. This year, Virginia to
Vegas – 2018 Juno Awards Nominee for Breakthrough Artist of the Year – will
headline the celebrations.
To mark Canada’s 151st
birthday, citizens are invited to gather at Boyd Conservation Area, 8739
Islington Ave., for a day full of fun for all ages with inflatables, rock
climbing, a zipline, life-size games, a disco dome, a fully accessible
inflatable maze, face painting, arts and crafts, and a business zone. Great
food will also be available for purchase in the food zone. Admission,
activities and entertainment are free for the whole family. Canada Day is
presented by TD and event sponsors CN and Tim Hortons.
Exciting entertainment
is planned throughout the day with live performances starting at noon on the
community stage. At 3:30 p.m., Mayor Bevilacqua and Members of Council will
bring an official welcome. Critically
acclaimed Canadian artists, JENNA Nation and Jordan John, will perform at 4 p.m.
and 5 p.m., respectively, which will be followed by opening act, Epic Journey
Tribute, before Virginia to Vegas takes the stage at 7 p.m.
There is no public parking available at the event site. Attendees are
encouraged to take a free shuttle bus to the location. Buses will run between
11:30 a.m. and 9 p.m., and will pick up people at the following locations:
- Vaughan City Hall, 2141 Major Mackenzie Dr.
- Al Palladini Community Centre, 9201 Islington Ave. (Wheel-Trans shuttle bus service will be available)
- Woodbridge Pool and Memorial Arena, 5020 Highway 7
- Vellore Village Community Centre, 1 Villa Royale Ave.
- North Thornhill Community Centre, 300 Pleasant Ridge Ave.
- Garnet A. Williams Community Centre, 501 Clark Ave. W.

- Emcee for the community stage, from noon to 4 p.m., is Julia Suppa.

- Vaughan Celebrates Canada Day 2015 was recognized as part of the 2016 Top 100 Festivals and Events in Ontario.
- The City of Vaughan has a fireworks by-law (PDF) that allows family fireworks on Victoria Day and Canada Day only. For displays on other days, residents must apply for a permit (PDF).
CANADA DAY CLOSURES
- Vaughan City Hall, Joint Operations Centre and Vaughan Animal Services will be closed on Monday, July 2.
- Waste collection will not be affected and will continue as regularly scheduled.
- Community centres will be closed on Sunday, July 1, except for Thornhill Outdoor Pool, which will be open. Check vaughan.ca/swim for the swim schedule.
- Community centres will be open on Monday, July 2 for recreational drop-in services. Registered programs and swim lessons will not be running.
- Summer camps begin Tuesday, July 3.
- Vaughan Public Libraries will be closed on Sunday, July 1 and Monday, July 2. Regular library hours will resume for all branches on Tuesday, July 3.
