Council Congratulates Woodbridge Strikers On 2011 USA Cup Win

​Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua and Members of Council at a public meeting on October 25 congratulated the Woodbridge Strikers 98 ‘A’ soccer team for winning their age group at Schwan’s USA CUP, the largest international youth soccer tournament in North America.

“Congratulations to all the players, their families, coaches and supporters; what an outstanding accomplishment for this young team,” said Mayor Bevilacqua. “We have a long and proud soccer tradition here in the City of Vaughan. It is a sport that continues to grow in both membership and popularity, and we are proud to recognize the efforts of this talented group of players.”
 
Schwan’s USA CUP was held in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and hosted more than 940 soccer teams from 17 countries around the world. The Woodbridge Strikers 98 ‘A’ soccer team won five consecutive games in a round-robin format, including a win over Costa Rica in the championship game, to place first in the tournament’s 13 Boys Gold Flight division.
