Vaughan Receives Grant Enhancing Emergency Preparedness And Response Capabilities

The City of Vaughan recently received a grant from Public Safety Canada’s Joint Emergency Preparedness Program (JEPP) to cover up to 45 per cent of the cost of computers and printers for the City’s Emergency Operations Centre.

“This illustrates how different levels of government can work together to establish a high level of emergency preparedness and enhance emergency response capabilities across Canada,” said Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua. “This investment will reduce injuries and property damage associated with an emergency and can ultimately save lives.”

The JEPP grant was used to purchase 42 computer systems and four printer, scanner and copier units. Each member of the Emergency Management Team has a computer. Vaughan’s Emergency Operations Centre is kept in a permanent state of readiness.

“The grant has helped provide the City of Vaughan with a well-equipped facility and ensures our highly-trained staff have the technology and information needed to manage an emergency in Vaughan,” said City Manager Clayton Harris.
