Council Hands Out Awards to Mark Ontario Heritage

Two awards were handed out at the Feb. 18 Council meeting to mark Ontario Heritage Week.
Ann Crichton-Harris and Lyn MacMillan received the Ontario Heritage Trust’s Heritage Community Recognition award for their work in advocating for the preservation of the Carrville Post Office which was built around 1845 at 1050 Rutherford Rd. The owners of the building, the Remington Group Inc., relocated and converted the building for office/commercial use in a new development along Rutherford Road.
Recipients of the 2014 Vaughan Heritage Preservation Awards were recognized for their contributions to the restoration and conservation of Vaughan buildings and properties with cultural heritage value. These projects support the City’s commitment to maintaining its historic streetscapes and unique architectural heritage.
2014 Vaughan Heritage Preservation Award recipients and their respective projects include:
- Peter Trezzi for Masonry Work, 10 Richmond St., Maple – Nominated for dedication to heritage conservation exemplified by the careful selection of masonry cladding in the new building and its detailed workmanship, which make the building a successful example of the positive impact of materials upon the heritage streetscape in the Maple Heritage Conservation District.
- Treasure Hill Developments for Sympathetic Infill Intensification, 9589 Keele St., Maple – Nominated for the dedication to heritage conservation exemplified in the design of the condominium building to fit within the heritage residential character of the Maple Heritage Conservation District.
- Greg Ilic for Restoration, 25 Elizabeth St., Thornhill – Nominated for dedication to heritage conservation exemplified in the careful restoration and updated renovation of a house located within the Thornhill Heritage Conservation District.
