The date of the City of Vaughan’s Tamil Heritage Month and Thai Pongal Celebration has moved! The new date is Monday, Jan. 22, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Vaughan City Hall (2141 Major Mackenzie Dr.).

Mayor Steven Del Duca and Members of Council invite you to celebrate Tamil Heritage Month and Thai Pongal with the City of Vaughan! This exciting evening will commemorate the vibrant culture of our Tamil residents and celebrate their art and heritage while observing traditional musical and dance performances. Festivities will also include greetings from Mayor Del Duca and a candle-lighting ceremony.

Tamils around the world honour this time of joy with many traditions, such as visiting family; preparing Pongal, a rice dish closely associated with the holiday; disposing of old or unwanted items, which symbolizes the end of the old and the beginning of the new; and so much more.

The City has proclaimed January as Tamil Heritage Month – a time to reflect on the history, culture and contributions of Tamil communities across the country.
